I just heard news stories about games and apps that are starting to come out for the new release of iPhone 4S with its new features. A great news from Firement, creators of racing cars for iPad games, is releasing major update for Real Racing 2 and Real racing 2 HD.

These are one of the most thrilling racing games available for just in time launching of iOS 5. V1.12 that delivers full 720p Airplay support. It is updated that capability will allow for up to four players through Party Play mode. It’s pretty amazing!

Real racing 2 (for iPhone 4S) and Real Racing 2 HD (for iPad 2) features to stream to a HD TV using Airplay. What’s good to this is that it is completely wireless and you will likely experience the most liberating and immersive racing ever made just like I did. It comes with full screen viewing and totally borderless display with fabulous 3D graphics. You can now take advantage of dual screens with real-time racing.

With its Party Play mode, it features split screen local multiplayer over Airplay. In order to take advantage of this upgrade, one player which is the host needs to have an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S.

These race cars interior comes with real dynamic shadows and outstanding lighting. Also have normal mapping which is applied to car interior. Certain race cars have been upgraded with an average four times increase in polygon count, with its details like front grills, door handles and seams are all modeled in.

Moreover, it comes with improved reflections on all cars and road lighting with normal and fabulous maps to highlight the details that were previously blurred. It also includes enhanced building window reflections and HDR such as exposure effects that gives dynamic range adjustments when it is in shadow or looking at the sun.

We are definitely in the stage now where graphics on games are getting near optimal, and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is definitely a game which showcases this brilliantly.

A further venture of the Need for Speed franchise, Hot Pursuit has been released directly for iPod Touch and iPad. And the fact that this version has been designed specifically for iOS shows, especially with the HD version for iPad, available on the app store at £6.99/$9.99.

As for unique features, the Need for Speed franchise has become famous in racing gaming due to its boosting abilities and the cop/racer choices. But one thing that truly makes this stand out on the iPad is once again its graphics. On par with computer and console racing games, on the iPad you could not ask for a more immersive feel.

The attention to detail is great too – not just in the graphical quality but within the huge range of cars and race types to choose from. Being able to pick a high profile car and feel the ups and downs of each type is amazing, and with a wide range of ‘cop’ versions of each of the cars, whichever you want to be there is a car for you.

Whilst some may say that the game is on the short side, this is to be expected for now, especially on the iPad – after all, this is not a console game. However we can expect updates in the near future, and the game certainly has a sense of re-playability.

And any downsides are truly more than made up for in the HD graphics, which genuinely need to be experienced to truly understand it. The sheer range of terrain and the night/day racing makes this one of the best racing games out there to invest in, hands down.

With Apple having steadfastly refused to allow a South Park game onto the App Store, it is nice to see several apps now available for iPad.

The most recent addition is the South Park Avatar Creator, allowing you to fully explore the world of South Park through creating your own personal South Park Avatar, using clothing and the like from the show, and basing it in particular backgrounds that fans of the show will know well.

This is the one thing with the app – it is certainly only for fans of the show and not so much for anyone just finding out about it. Yet fans will definitely love it. The references to different themes in the show are hilarious, with there being a lot to explore for anyone who has seen most of the seasons available.

The best thing is it doesn’t advertise itself as anything it’s not – it is simply a boredom buster, a great app for passing the time in an amusing way. And seriously, you can spend many hours simply enjoying the different aspects of the app, and then using your creations in different ways.

You can create avatars and backgrounds and then assign them to certain contacts, set it as a background, email it to friends or even upload it to Facebook, the app is very friendly to anyone wanting to connect socially through it. The extensions and uses of the app are very varied, and you can have a lot of fun simply messing around with it.

And for anyone who is only just starting to find out about the joy of South Park, the app is certainly open to you, just maybe after you have explored the South Park universe a little more, so that you can get the most fun out of the app possible.

At times it is truly stunning the number of games that can be played on a device such as the iPod Touch or the iPad, especially with such high quality graphics as Ducati Challenge.

It has always been my belief that one of the main beauties of iPad games is the fact that, as they are a smaller project than much larger games, the developers are far more focused on the particular aspects that make a game unique, without running away with too many ideas. Ducati Challenge is definitely a game which shows this.

The premise is simple – it is a motorbike racing game, allowing you to race through a vast number of different beautiful race courses, truly showcasing the iPad’s graphical power. The HD version is most definitely worth it solely for the beauty within the graphics, and for a handheld game it is truly immersive.

And this is the thing – it focuses on just the one integral aspect of the game, the racing, yet it focuses on it so well that it pulls it off almost perfectly. It is so easy to get completely absorbed in the racing, with it truly getting your pulse going as you race for the finish line.

And it has only developed further within the confines of a racing game – with a varied number of different race types, you can even do qualifying races to set the starting grid, allowing the realism to flow even more.

The multiplayer is also something to look into if you feel like challenging your friends, but once again the main selling point for me is the sheer attention to detail, especially in the library of Ducati bikes to choose from, making this game an absolute must-buy for the iPad. You truly will not regret purchasing the game.

Mini Gore is certainly a casual ipad game, and if you’re more into your hardcore gaming, you might as well stop reading now. Saying that, casual gaming is no longer the dirty word it used to be, especially when used in conjunction with the new portable gaming market. For the iPad this is definitely a good game, and worth checking out if you’ve got some money to spend on your gaming library.

You begin the game playing as John Gore, you have a trusty machine gun and the aim is to kill the creatures known as “furries”. With each kill you make, you get the opportunity to buy new playable characters such as Jerry Gore, a World War II veteran or Xmas Gore which is essentially John Gore dressed up as Santa Claus, and loads more. There are some premium characters available at a cost of $0.99.

The graphics and animation are quite cartoony, which is perfect for this style of game. They are quite reminiscent of the Lego series of games, which often provided some comical effect and so you should expect a cutesy playstyle that reflects these graphics. The game does have two different types of controls which seem to address previous criticisms of iPad games. There is the more traditional dual stick method, which has had a lot of criticism levelled at it for being impractical, unresponsive and just generally tricky to use. On top of this there is the more innovative Touch2Go mode. This essentially automatically aims and shoots for you, which some might say takes any fun out of the game, but it has been praised for its knowledge of the market it was aiming at.

The soundtrack is quite quirky and interesting and really matches the whole concept of the ipad game. In fact, pretty much every aspect of the game has been carefully thought through and contributed to the overall feel of the game. This was a clever move by the developers because with a game that fits such a niche market, it is very important to make sure you always have them in mind. These thoughts have created a game that is consistently appealing.

Unfortunately, a massive criticism of the game is the lack of replayability. Priced at $4.99 you would expect quite a vast game for a relatively hefty price tag. Unfortunately, despite the ability to play as plenty of different characters, there are only 3 weapons, 2 levels and 2 types of enemy which makes the game become boring very fast. The developers are in the process of creating some more content for the game and so your decisions as to where to purchase this game will probably depend on how much money you’re willing to spend.

If you’ve recently bought an iPad I’m sure you’re itching to try out all the games you possibly can. You’ve probably looked at as many possible purchases as you can and let’s be fair, it’s quite daunting trying to decide what to spend your money on. If you don’t want to spend too much, but you don’t want to miss out on some of the heavier hitting series on the iPad how about trying out the games that are very similar?

Gangstar – West Coast Hustle is essentially a carbon copy of the Grand Theft Auto series. If you were a fan of that, you should definitely check this out. You play as an ex-con named Pedro who gets himself involved in the Los Angeles crime scene after a brief stint in a Mexican prison. It’s a 3D sandbox game that plays with a mission style story, which will have you completing various missions given to you by those dangerous people you would avoid in a dark alley. These missions include pick-ups, whacking a rival gang member and making deliveries and are all rewarded with money which you can go on to spend on new weapons and other gangster paraphernalia.

Unfortunately, much like the majority of iPad games, the control system is clunky and uncomfortable. It would really seem that Apple didn’t think that carefully about using their new portable device for gameplay.

A redeeming factor is the graphics and animation style of the game. The cars look pretty good, colourful and well designed. The textures are spot on, sharp and detailed. The people however, aren’t as well designed; they are blocky and look like they’ve been in some sort of accident.

The soundtrack is nothing special, and it definitely lacks the quirkiness of its source material, which has constantly stepped up its game. The sounds are quite realistic and clear though, so it shouldn’t be too much of a deterrent.

Some of the missions will last you a fair few hours, and there’s free roaming that could keep you occupied for quite a while. Priced at $6.99 this won’t set you back too much, and it will probably keep you occupied for around 20 hours, so there’s definitely value for money. Unfortunately, the unoriginality of this game does distract a little from what the developers have achieved and it’s hard to ignore as you’re playing. Still, well worth a look at.

The transition of a series as unique as Resident Evil from home consoles to portable gaming was always going to be a difficult one. There is a certain ambience and tension to the home console games that can sometimes be lost during the fumbling touching and scraping at a touch screen.

The ipad game’s story plays out very similarly to its original Gamecube source material. Unfortunately, that’s where the comparisons end. Even the story isn’t that similarly. You still play as Secret Service agent Leon Kennedy but it seems that a lot of the content has been cut out, and you’re left with 12 rather mediocre missions and a very lacking rendition of what was previously a great story. The choice of weapons is also sadly lacklustre with very little room for customisation, and it seems that all the RPG elements of the original version have been cut out. This was a bad move because the RPG elements were what made Resident Evil 4 so different and special and a standout for the series.

The control system is shocking, there is one stick for both movement and camera panning which makes for some insufferable experiences that are so frustrating you may very well give up before you’ve made it to the end. Along with this, there are several typos in the dialogue that is completely unacceptable for any game, even if it is just a portable download.

The graphics are quite frankly as appalling as they were back with the original Resident Evil and are certainly not a site for sore eyes. The character design is blocky, the scenery is bland and uninteresting and the textures are very blurry. Overall, it’s a shoddy effort from the design team.

The soundtrack, which could have been a redeeming factor, is another awful show from the developers. The music is poor for creating any atmosphere, and the lack of any real voice acting leaves the game completely un-immersive.

It’s tough to pick out any real positives from this game as it is a complete letdown. The only thing that may make it worth picking up is if you’re a fan of the series. With a hefty price tag of around $12.99 even the most hardened of fans may struggle with the prospect of buying this game. If you really like your zombie games and want one for your iPad, check out Zombie Infection.

The original Samurai game received mixed reviews and there were several issues identified that would need to be improved if a sequel was going to be successful. Unfortunately, although the game has been improved a lot of the core issues have been completely ignored and left as they were.

Samurai II’s story is presented in a series of comic book style pages, that aren’t exactly well developed and serve more as window dressing for the movement from A to B. It might be unrealistic to expect an in-depth and captivating story from an iPad game, but a story this shallow doesn’t provide much in the way of immersion. You play as Daisuke and you’re sent on a quest for revenge across a war-scorched countryside. It sounds like a wonderful tale of revenge but once again, the poor telling really limits the depth of the narrative.

The game has made some improvements on the first. The controls have been lightened and made more precise compared to the clunky and unresponsive controls from the first game. The content of the game is very similar to its predecessor but it has undergone some improvements. There are even more battle scenes, some exquisitely gory and blood-laden scenes, more environmental puzzles such as traps and other hazards, and a more sophisticated RPG style element that encourages players to improve their battle combos and their health. This does add some more depth to the game but at times it still feels a little shallow.

The soundtrack is uninspiring and provides little variation on the typical monotonous music that comes with most iPad games. It’s fitting to the genre of game but isn’t exactly innovative or original.

The redeeming feature of the game is the graphics and animation style. The cel-shaded style of graphics fits the whole genre to a tee, and it provides a typically Japanese feel to an otherwise shallow game. This whole presentation of the game is gorgeous and the way the graphics and all effects pop out of the screen gives an immersion that is lacking in the other features.

At $2.99 this is quite a cheap game and if you enjoyed the first Samurai you will almost certainly enjoy this one. Unfortunately, if you’re a first time player of this series you may find it a little lacklustre.

With portable gaming becoming a fast growing phenomenon in the video gaming world, it was only a matter of time before the big hitting developers in home console games brought their expertise to this new area. This is no clearer than in the development of Ipad games such as Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars.

A best selling series on Xbox and Playstation consoles, GTA has been branching into portable gaming since its foray into DS games with a previous version of this game. It has to be said, the Ipad game is a vast improvement on the DS and for those who weren’t impressed with the play style this is definitely worth a look at.

You play Huang Lee, the wronged son of a murdered Triad gangster, charged with the quest of travelling to Liberty City to ingratiate yourself with the underground dealings of your uncle. Before you ask, yes, it is the same Liberty City as some of you may have played in during GTA IV. Recognising some of the stand-out landmarks from this location will prove to be a rewarding task, and this adds a certain quality and depth of sophistication to the game that other portable games have sometimes lacked.

With a wealth of previous experience to draw on, you would expect the game to take a similar direction to it’s predecessors with an over-the-shoulder 3D view of the world. However, the developers decided to take a much riskier path and returned to the roots of GTA with a top-down Playstation 1 and 2 graphic style. It’s easy to instantly not like the sound of this, but, the mixture of a 2D style in a 3D setting really works, and it makes the graphics of the game really pop out of the screen.

In terms of price, the game will set you back about $9.99 which is quite a standard price for Ipad games with such a strong reputation behind them. For this price you will get 50 missions to play through, which could take you up to 20 hours. In fact, the mission variety in this game is probably one of its strongest features. It thinks outside the box and provides missions that go beyond the normal drive and kill missions we have become accustomed to.

The soundtrack in the game does not contain any licensed music, but this is actually a plus because the music in previous GTA games has been pretty dire. A new feature which allows you to play your own music while you enjoy the game is a nice touch which helps you to really get into the whole experience.

The only real negative of the game is that sometimes the frame rate can get a little behind, which can be expected from such a large game on such a small platform. Nonetheless, the game has come a long way to improve upon the negative attention the DS and Ipod version got and it certainly an easy game to recommend.

an ipad game worth having a look if you are a fan of bruce lee, or just into fighting games

Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior HD- iPad game

Us gamers of yesteryear share the philosophy that good fighting games need a controller or joy stick, but Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior iPad game proves us completely wrong. Although originally difficult to get used to, iPad control leaves you performing moves with the best of them. And Let’s face it: no one can match Bruce Lee’s fighting stamina and agility.

Regardless of age, we have all have Bruce Lee, the renowned real life fighting expert. Older gamers will remember him rivaling classics such as Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter in the good old days. Knowing our nostalgic love for Bruce Lee games, Digital Legends Entertainment has set the scenes in the 1950s, pitting Bruce against then notorious gang members and thugs of the time. The player will start with basic moves and earn both more players and technique as they progress. Add the classic element to a stellar animation with killer camera angles and you have a great game for less than $2.00.

Whilst the sound track is typical with the added bonus of changing depending on the circumstance on screen, the realistic screams of Bruce Lee cannot be beaten. In addition, The story arc can be complex for early gamers, especially as Bruce Lee performs many varied tasks, including learning from Kung Fu masters, training and fighting a selection notorious thugs. But once this skill is mastered the game is hard to put down. A word of warning: say goodbye to friends and family, as multiplayer mode is not yet available. A great iPad game for a great price.

Price $1.99
